Gisele vs Brady

15th April 2015 | Alice Taylor

One of my favourite images of my favourite model Gisele Bundchen has been recreated by Alex Guofeng Cao. He creates large-scale portraits of society’s icons by recreating recognizable photographs or paintings using thousands of smaller images, resulting in a pixelated and repetitive surface. He is most intrigued by the relationship between the small photos and the larger image—creating a type of dual portrait, as seen here in Gisele vs Brady, after Irving Penn’s Gisele, New York, April 1, 1999.

Anyone fancy buying me a signed and numbered copy for £10,000?

Luciano Castelli

17th February 2015 | Alice Taylor

Swiss artist (1951) Luciano Castelli is a painter, photographer and sculptor.

‘When the painter Luciano Castelli began posing for the camera in the early 1970s, he adopted a variety of roles, acting out every conceivable facet of himself. In utter disregard of gender distinctions, he variously transformed himself into an androgynous mythical creature and a glam rock diva. His virtuoso, surreal self-portraits, so far published only in limited form, are of an undiminished vibrancy in their playful eroticism and darkly narrative thrust. They reveal a hitherto underrated aspect of Castelli’s ouevre, which now, several decades later, could well be seen in an entirely new light. Very much in the spirit of the French psychoanalyst and art critic Jean-Michel Ribettes, who already in 2001 read Castelli‘s expressive theatricality as a timeless phenomenon and critique of a puritan society: “Castelli‘s expressive theatricality is there to protest at the confusion of a gregarious, prudish, vilely mercantile period.”‘ – Luciano Castelli: Self-portrait 1973 to 1986

The book Luciano Castelli: Self-portrait 1973 to 1986 edited by Patrick Frey and designed by Beda Achermann is available to buy here.

It’s Just A Bra

10th October 2014 | Alice Taylor

Amazing bra, amazing model…

It’s nice to see a model expressing personality and participation; rather than what’s more often the case, which is the photographer having the model be no more than a mannequin.

I’d love to know who this is as she looks very familiar!

A Sip from Kate’s Breast

21st August 2014 | Katherine Jane

British supermodel Kate Moss has had a champagne glass modelled on her left breast courtesy of London restaurant 34.

The special glass has been made to celebrate Kate’s 25 years working in the fashion industry.

Of course, legend has it that the first ever champagne coupe was modelled on Marie Antoinette’s left breast, which is the inspiration for this new version by artist Jane McAdam. Kate said “I was excited to participate in this project, what an honour to be alongside Marie Antoinette – she was a very intriguing and mischievous character. Champagne is always associated with celebration and happy occasions and I had fun creating this beautiful coupe.”

The glass features a ‘Kate’ signature and accompanying heart at the base. You can get your hands on it from October at 34 and its sister restaurants The Club at The Ivy, Daphne’s and Scott’s.

Nettie Harris by Renato Ramos Jr.

18th August 2014 | Alice Taylor

Having almost completed the printing of Issue One of The Quite Delightful Project, I admit to being mildly obsessed with the model Nettie Harris.

…she’s in Quite Frankly, both photographed by George Pitts and in a candid and revealing interview, and also features in a fine art photographic monograph of photography by Mikey McMichaels which will be launched at the same time.

Here’s Nettie looking entirely natural – just as she always does – – photographed by Renato Ramos Jr.

Cole Magazine & Zoi

13th August 2014 | Katherine Jane

In preparing to launch a new (luxury erotic) magazine myself, I am always keen to see what others are doing to promote or announce the launch of their own publications.

Here, Stefano Brunesci brings us a black and white film to promote the launch issue of Cole Magazine of model Zoi Gorman posing playfully – and sensually – in black and white.

Dsquared2 Underwear | Steven Klein

18th June 2014 | Katherine Jane

It’s not so much that this blog is biased towards stunning fashion images of female models – well it is, but by default – it’s just that there are so few genuinely great arresting images of guys doing the rounds.

So, imagine my excitement, when I saw these images of models Travis Hanson & Rich Stinger for Dsquared2 Underwear’s 2014 campaign photographed by Steven Klein.

Artist Or Predator?

18th June 2014 | Alice Taylor

NY Magazine: Is Terry Richardson an Artist or a Predator?

Terry Richardson, displaced from his old photography studio on the Bowery by a high-end fitness chain, was at his new space, an unadorned floor-through loft down the street. Wood floor, tin ceiling, brick walls interrupted by white swaths of Sheetrock. Four employees sat working quietly on Macs. Pandora was tuned to Elvis Presley Radio. “It’s insane, the internet,” Richardson was saying. “Totally craziness. Like a little cancer. People can just do whatever they want, say whatever they want, be totally anonymous. It’s totally out of control.”
