Vee Laroche Again

27th January 2013 | Simone Aagaard

A few weeks ago we posted an editorial of photography for Purple magazine featuring the model Vee Laroche (who we find breathtaking).

Anyway, here’s another editorial of the sublime Ms Laroche (by the same photographer, Darren Ankenman) for the new magazine Spirit & Flesh.

Vee Laroche also features on one the magazine’s seven launch covers, the ‘Gluttony’ issue.

NX300: Mirrorless Wi-fi Camera

12th January 2013 | Katherine Jane

It seems that South Korean manufacturer Samsung continues its quest for world domination – via the design of admittedly fine products with increasingly fine retro product design too – by announcing the release of the NX300; their latest series of their 3D capable mirror-less wi-fi cameras.

Boasting a 20.3 megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor, the device is capable of capturing imagesat a range of ISO 100 to 25600.

The new camera also supports the ability
to shoot continuous burst photos at up to 8.6 FPS with additional full HD video recording capabilities. its 3.31 inch AMOLED touchscreen goes hand in hand with its built-in wi-fi, making it easier to share pictures to friends, family or the web.

Samsung has also introduced the world’s first 2D/3D 45mm F1.8 lens system, which can be used conventionally in two dimension, or to capture photo stills and full 1080p video in three-dimension.

Canon Powershot

10th January 2013 | Katherine Jane

Canon will soon be bringing tiny new digital camera to the market – the Powershot N. Measuring just 3.1 x 2.4 x 1.2 inches, the 12.1 megapixel camera features a 90º flip-out touchscreen display on the back in replacement of the regular buttons and has Wi-Fi connectivity, allowing you to instantly share your photos online without having to connect to your laptop first.

There is also a new ECO mode that Canon will be adding to all Powershot models going forward, meaning you can save an additional 30% of your battery consumption. The Powershot N is set for release in April and will retail for $300 (approx. £190).

Designboom provides more info about this attractive looking little toy:

Canon has presented their newest compact camera at the 2013 CES in Las Vegas – the ‘Powershot N’.

Expressed as ‘the ultimate storytelling tool’, it features ‘Creative Shot’, a new imaging mode that analyzes an image and automatically creates a series
artistic photos of the original with varying compositions, lighting and color.

Equipped with enhanced wireless capabilities that connect the point and shoot to a variety of mobile devices instantly, so users can upload and comment on their images in real-time while on-the-go using wi-fi connectivity.

Its 12.1-megapixel high sensitivity CMOS sensor and DIGIC 5 image processor provides crisp photographic results with 1080p full HD video capture in a compact body format, while in addition, a 2.8-inch tilt-touch panel LCD, allows users to capture images at unique angles.

Diego Uchitel: Polaroids

19th October 2012 | Simone Aagaard

Diego Uchitel launches his book ‘Polaroids’ this month. Uchitel used polaroid film from 1982 to 2006.

Uchitel sifted through 10,000 Polaroids, including many that once graced the 20-by-60-foot wall of Polaroids in his former space on New York’s Hudson Street. This month, some of the makings of those shoots will be revealed when his book is published by Damani and distributed in North America through Artbook/D.A.P. It will be available internationally later this Autumn.

A portrait of David Bowie and a black-and-white one of a nearly nude Gisele Bündchen are among his personal favorites.

Recalling the Los Angeles shoot with Bowie in the mid-Nineties, Uchitel says, “I just remember him saying, ‘What if I put red lipstick on?’ At that moment many people were taking pictures of David Bowie, but not like that.”

Madonna, Steven Meisel & Sex

8th September 2012 | Alice Taylor

I’ve just come across a signed copy of the once infamous Madonna ‘Sex’ book up for auction online.

(Actually, the auction’s over and 1100 Euros really doesn’t seem such a lot to have paid for this once hugely controversial publication and unprecedented photography of such a mainstream superstar).

Anyway, the photographer that Madonna collaborated with on this book was Steven Meisel, and she has continued to work with him over the years since; including many memorable shoots for Rolling Stone magazine, Vogue Italia, Interview, W Magazine, and Vanity Fair.

There’s a selection of the photography from many of these shoots here.
