Edgar Modern gallery is soon to open a new exhibition of paintings by Henrietta Dubrey, Rough Deluxe: Sweet Candy and Wild Women.
The show will feature an exciting new body of work encompassing both abstract and figurative works. The bold, vibrant abstracts with their more organic compositions provide the ‘Sweet Candy’. Their jewel-like colours and simple shapes lure, tempt and demand attention. Contrastingly, Dubrey’s uninhibited female figures, or ‘Wild Women’, provide a rougher element to the show.
Fascinated with the representation of the female form, Dubrey has created a set of bold powerful women who confidently present themselves to the viewer occupying their bodies with poise and self-possession. Together, the abstract and figurative elements of the exhibition portray decadent painterly abstraction, inspired by the ‘multifarious plethora of images and texts’ which we are confronted with on a daily basis.
