__________

Jacs Fishburne is a model and photographer, based in Woodstock, New York, who shoots on 35mm film. For her it is incredibly important to display more realistic body shapes within the realms of erotic and nude photography. ‘The key,’ she tells us, ‘Is to be inclusive and to recognize that just as thin body types exist, so do larger curvier ones. We live in a world that tells people that they aren’t good enough as they are simply because a company wants to sell you things. They want to sell you on an idea of perfection and confidence and sex without telling you that all of these things already exist in your being.’

After her father’s passing in 2011, Jacs picked up a camera and started to create self-portraits, as a way to connect back to art. The process helped her to come to terms with a lot of physical and mental problems that were prevalent in her life at the time. Even when not creating self-portraits, she feels that a part of her is still present in each image that she creates.

Her photography is deeply personal. ‘I model for others,’ Jacs explains, ‘Simply because I want to understand myself through other’s eyes. I already know how I feel and think about myself, but to give up the control over who I think I am and hand it over to another human being is something that is incredibly difficult for me to do. It’s been an interesting journey existing on both sides of the lens.’
