George Pitts is an award-winning photography director, painter, and essayist and a renowned educator. His photographic work spans the fine art, commercial, and fashion worlds.

Having been a faculty member since 1998, George is a Director of Photographic Practices at the celebrated design school, Parsons, in New York. It is interesting to note that included in the list of students that he has taught is the photographer Ryan McGinley.

In addition to teaching at Parsons, Pitts has held a number of prominent positions, including director of photography at Vibe magazine, where he received three National Magazine Award nominations for Best Photography.

George is currently working on a book project on the subject of “Mature Women,” shooting portraits and nudes of Women thirty-five years of age and older. The book serves as a clarion call to women to stop being hung up about growing older, and instead to embrace the power of a sexuality that can only come with age.

Issue One includes an interview with the actress and model Nettie Harris, in which she reveals that working with George is, “Always special. He has a way of listening to you that makes it clear that you’re an important part of what’s happening too. When you wrap up a shoot with George you can feel as if you’ve just walked out of a session with your therapist. He is knowledgeable, cultured, and he’s very hip to want’s going on… …but it’s not just that, he’s very wise and sincere too.”
