Jean Clemmer & Paco Rabanne
This is a particularly rare find, appealing to collectors of out-of-print photo books and followers of fashion alike.
Jean Clemmer and fashion wild child Paco Rabanne’s collaboration, Nues, broke new ground in more ways than one when the book was released in 1969. The sensual, carefully-styled shots of models dressed in Rabanne’s ‘unwearable’ fashions – including Rabanne’s famed futuristic rhodoid and aluminium chain-mail jewellery – provoked shock and outrage for their erotic interplay between the female body and adornment. But they were also revolutionary for being the first such images to depict black and Asian models.
Nues was published in 1969 to immediate notoriety but quickly fell out of print and has become a collector’s item. Sculptural and elegant, these nudes are at once quiet yet also dynamic – a sense that is enhanced by the heavy chainmail dresses and accessories that both cover and reveal the body.
